PREVIEW: Gills v DRFC

3 September 2015

Saturday 5th September 2015 (3pm), Sky Bet League One, Priestfield Stadium.

Doncaster Rovers will look to register their third win in a week when they travel to League One high flyers Gillingham at Priestfield Stadium.

Following victories over Fleetwood Town in the league and Burton Albion in the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy, Rovers hit the road to face a Gills side that have surpassed expectations and find themselves placed fourth and among the early pacesetters.

Integral to the form of the Kent side has been midfielder Bradley Dack and manager Justin Edinburgh, both nominated for respective monthly accolades from the Football League.

However, Rovers are buoyed by new loan signings in Cameron Stewart and Oscar Gobern, the former slotting home the decisive penalty against the Brewers to ensure a safe passage through to round 2 of the JPT.

It’s fair to say that Gillingham has not proved to be the happiest of hunting grounds for Doncaster teams of the past since their first visit some 55 years ago.

In fact, Doncaster have only won 2 of 28 matches played at Priestfield Stadium adding to their first win in January 1971 (1-0) with a 2-0 win in January 2007 when goals from Brian Stock and Jason Price separated the pair.

Bragging rights belonged to the Gills last term when they took four points from Doncaster with a 2-1 win at Keepmoat Stadium (including a Luke Norris brace) followed by a 1-1 draw in the return which included a spectacular 40 yard free kick from Harry Forrester.

TEAM NEWS: Paul Keegan and Dany N’Guessan will come in to contention after training through the week, as will new signing Oscar Gobern. Luke McCullough, Harry Forrester, Nathan Tyson and Rob Jones (all injured) and Richie Wellens won’t be available for selection.
