13 September 2015

Rovers U18s lose their 100% win record after losing to Yorkshire rivals Bradford City

Bradford City U18s - 4 (Foster-Webb 13', 17', 42', 70')
Doncaster Rovers U18s - 1 (Williamson 85')

Saturday 12th September 2015, 11:00am
Rawdon Meadows, Bradford
Youth Alliance League

Both teams came into this game with 100% win records but it is the hosts that will be boasting that stat after today's game. It was a day to forget for young goalkeeper Louis Jones as he was unfortunately at fault for three of the four goals that were scored by Bradford striker Reece Webb-Foster.

The first real clear-cut chance of the game fell to the home side, a long ball over the top from Danny Lairo caused confusion in the Rovers defence, as goalkeeper Jones and stand in Captain Conner Williamson got in each other's way which left the door open for Webb-Foster to tap in the easiest goal he will score all season.
Less than four minutes later Bradford doubled their lead, a quick throw from Sam Wright set Webb-Foster away, his tricky footwork on the edge of the box opened some space for the youngster who unleashed his left-footed effort which managed to flash past Jones at his near post.

Rovers should have pulled one back on the half an hour mark, a perfect whipped free kick by Matty Parkin was met by the head of big centre back Kevin Mbuti who really should have nestled his header in the back of the Bradford City goal.

Doncaster had another carbon copy chance to get back into the game, but this time it was Michael Carberry with a stunning left-footed free kick into the box but it skimmed the head of Ben Greasley which unfortunately went wide.

Webb-Foster completed his hat-trick three minutes before half time, the striker broke away from the Rovers defence and his left-footed effort managed to slide under the slippery gloves of Jones in the Doncaster net.

Bradford could have extended their lead even future just before the hour mark, the home side countered after a Rovers free kick, striker Curtis Peters played a defence splitting through ball to left back Kwame Boateng who flashed his effort just past the left post.

They did however make it four on their next attack, a rash tackle from Mbuti on Niah Payne left the referee with no option but to point to the spot. Up stepped Webb-Foster to slot his right-footed penalty in the bottom corner.

Doncaster had a penalty claim of their own two minutes later, James Morris was convinced that Sam Wright had handled the ball in the box but the referee was not interested.

Rovers did pull one back with five minutes to go, a short corner by Joe Pugh was picked up by Parkin who whipped in a cross, the Bradford defence failed to clear the cross and in came skipper Williamson to head home.
