Rovers manager Darren Ferguson will be hoping that his side can stop the Latics in their tracks and bounce back from a narrow loss at Bury on Saturday
Doncaster Rovers welcome top of the table Wigan Athletic to Keepmoat Stadium on Saturday knowing that, while their battle to stay in League One continues, the Latics promotion to the second tier is imminent.Gary Caldwell’s visitors – unbeaten since December 12th – will secure an instant return to the Championship if they pick up their sixth consecutive win and results go their way at the weekend.
Rovers manager Darren Ferguson will be hoping that his side can stop the Latics in their tracks and bounce back from a narrow loss at Bury on Saturday; where Leon Clarke’s second half strike was enough to settle the contest.
The sides met in the heat of the August sunshine inside the opening week of the 15/16 season and played out a goalless draw at the DW Stadium with the visitors coming closest through defender Gary MacKenzie who hit the woodwork.
Athletic haven’t visited the Keepmoat Stadium since the 13/14 season in the Championship – when they reached the end of season play-offs – but were thrashed 3-0 by the Yorkshire side with Chris Brown (2) and James Coppinger on target.
Rovers are unbeaten against the Lancastrians at home since 1988 and have only lost three times in 13 outings.
TEAM NEWS: Craig Alcock should return from suspension while goalkeeper Remi Matthews should recover sufficiently from a facial injury to return in time.
