Foundation Friday: NCS Success

19 August 2016

Club Doncaster Foundation has once again delivered their most successful NCS programme to date.

With targets set early in the year of 450 YP to complete the NCS programme in Doncaster this summer, the team certainly recognised this as a huge challenge but a capable one. With the additions in personnel of Matt Umney and Daniel Herring, the team really stepped up their challenge and excelled by recruiting a record total of 485 YP from across Doncaster.

During the programme YP go on 2 residentials and engage in lots of different activities including, abseiling, canoeing, high ropes, first aid course, working with past Olympians from Dame Kelly Homes Trust and many more. They even plan and deliver their own social action project in their local community, which involves over 30 hours of volunteer work!

Notably, one group contacted a children’s hospice in Huddersfield called ‘Forget me not’ this charity specialise in working with children with life shortening conditions. A member of this group already had strong relationship to this particular charity as they had cared for her brother. The group took it upon them to arrange several activities where they could fundraise. Activities involved, bake sale, girls’ choir (bearing in mind none of them sing), nail painting, face painting and all this took place in Lakeside shopping village or elderly care homes.

After a full week of fundraising the group got the opportunity to present a cheque for £651.66 (above) to a representative from ‘Forget me not’ Children’s Hospice who were so grateful with what the group had achieved.
