EFL Sky Bet League Two

Keepmoat Stadium, Doncaster

Doncaster Rovers picked up their first points of the EFL Sky Bet League Two season with a 1-1 home draw against Crawley Town.

Doncaster almost got off to a great start, James Coppinger put a decent cross in for John Marquis but the Rovers striker couldn't guide his header on target.

Josh Payne went close for the visitors, his effort in the 13th minute from range went just over the crossbar.

Against the run of play Crawley took the lead, Jason Banton did really well down the left flank and his low cross went under goalkeeper Ross Etheridge, leaving James Collins with a simple tap in.

Coppinger almost levelled the score from a free-kick, his curling effort from the edge of the box went just inches wide of the right post.

In the 36th minute Coppinger again went close, his long range attempt forced Yusuf Mersin into a good save.

Tommy Rowe then had a great chance to equalise, Riccardo Calder did really well down the wing before pulling the ball back for the Rovers midfielder, but his effort was cleared off the line.

Crawley almost extended their lead just before the break, the impressive Banton fed Enzio Boldewijn, but he put his effort over the bar.

Half Time: Doncaster Rovers 0-1 Crawley Town

After the break Rovers got off to the perfect start.  Matty Blair whipped in a low corner finding Coppinger who stroked the ball into the bottom left corner of the goal leaving Mersin no chance.

Matty Blair then saw his half volley from the edge of the box go just over the crossbar, as did Josh Payne at the other end five minutes later.

Tommy Rowe had the ball in the back of the net from another Rovers corner, however his effort was ruled out for a push in the box.

John Marquis went close from another Doncaster set piece however he couldn't keep his header down to give Rovers the lead.

Andy Williams had a great chance to win it with nine minutes remaining, he cut inside in the Crawley penalty area, but couldn't find the target with his left foot.

Rovers dominated the closing stages, going closest with a Coppinger free-kick, but Darren Ferguson's men couldn't get the breakthrough and had to settle for a point.
