Rovers v Cambridge Preview

16 August 2016

Tuesday 16th August 2016 (7.45pm), League Two, Keepmoat Stadium.

Rovers will be hoping to notch their first win in the fourth tier since May 2004 and ignite their stuttering campaign when they welcome Cambridge United to Keepmoat Stadium for their first ever visit.

A disjointed draw against Crawley at the weekend was salvaged by a sweet James Coppinger strike but Darren Ferguson is eager for Rovers to earn three points against the similarly winless Shaun Derry side.

Derry’s men went down 2-0 at Colchester on the weekend, however its still very early days for all concerned and noticeable that no one in League Two has preserved a 100% win record after only two games!

It’s not too long since Doncaster faced Cambridge; back in December Ferguson’s then League 1 side triumphed over the Amber and Golds in the second round of the FA Cup at Abbey Stadium thanks mainly to Conor Grants long range brace.

The sides have not met in the league since the 03/04 season. Rovers earned a point from 3-0 down and should have won but striker Paul Barnes missed a last minute penalty.

The return at Belle Vue was far more memorable as the hosts – thanks to Adebayo Akinfenwa and Paul Green – ensured promotion to the third tier on Bank Holiday Monday.

TEAM NEWS: Niall Mason will miss the game and could be out for up to a month after suffering a knee injury against Crawley. He joins mid-term absentees Paul Keegan, Mathieu Baudry, Craig Alcock and Gary McSheffrey.
