Saturday 13th August 2016 (3pm), EFL Sky Bet League Two, Keepmoat Stadium.
Rovers kick off their home league campaign on Saturday with the visit of Crawley Town to Keepmoat Stadium for only the third time ever.
A goal would be a welcome start for the hosts who lost 1-0 back in August 2012 thanks to a late Nicky Ajose winner and drew 0-0 in September 2014.
While both were knocked out of the EFL Cup in midweek by the same scoreline (2-1) and against Championship opposition in the shape of Nottingham Forest and Wolves, the visitors got their league season underway with a handy 1-0 home win over Wycombe thanks to Captain Jimmy Smith’s goal. The only blot on the copybook was Andre Blackman’s red card.
The sides have not met since Rovers thumped the Reds on a Tuesday in Sussex just 16 months ago; goals from Andy Butler, Richie Wellens, Harry Forrester, Nathan Tyson and Curtis Main saw Paul Dickov’s then play off chasers rout ex-manager Dean Saunders.
Regrettably Rovers finished mid-table while Town were relegated, thus ensuring Saturday’s game is the first between the teams in the fourth tier; directly between where the teams found themselves exactly a decade ago when Rovers hosted Tranmere in the third tier and Crawley won at Woking in the Conference.
TEAM NEWS: Joe Wright and Harry Middleton could retain their starting places after featuring against Nottingham Forest. Long term absentees Luke McCullough, Aaron Taylor-Sinclair, Mathieu Baudry, Craig Alcock and Gary McSheffrey will miss out, while Paul Keegan is nearing fitness.
