Blair gives his verdict on his Doncaster Rovers debut.
Matty Blair insists that he and his Doncaster Rovers teammates will get it right in the aftermath of a disappointing opening day defeat at Accrington on Saturday.
Blair, who won a penalty in the opening minutes, was heavily involved throughout and sees scope for optimism at this early stage.
“It wasn’t the greatest start but there were a lot of positives to take out of it and to work on,” he said.
“Scoring two goals was a big positive but we’ll work on the three that we conceded and try and put that right for the next game.
“We’re a new set of lads, a confident bunch that’s together so we’ll work it out and get it right.”
The exertions of the afternoon took its toll on the former York, Fleetwood and Mansfield flyer who was deployed in a right wing position and was a tad self-critical of his own performance.
“I’ve given it my everything, unfortunately my quality wasn’t there at times which was disappointing,” he said.
“It’s something for me to work on personally but I gave it everything and there’s not a lot more I can do.
“All we concentrated on this week was Accrington and that’s the way you’ve got to look at it.
“If you go too far in to the future then you won’t get the goals you set.
“The next game is the most important one so obviously we’ve got Nottingham Forest in the cup on Tuesday so we’ll try and focus our efforts on that one and get a result there.”
