Evina eager to help get Rovers back on track against former boss.

Cedric Evina was anticipating an impromptu week’s break in the season will pay dividends when Walsall visit Keepmoat Stadium tonight.

Saturday’s original fixture was rearranged due to the Saddlers’ ongoing involvement in the FA Cup – in which they lost 4-0 to Reading – while Rovers are eager to atone for a 2-1 defeat to Port Vale.

“We’ve had time to reflect on last Tuesday and obviously work on Walsall so its been good not having a game on the Saturday,” said Evina.

“Our home form needs to really improve, teams need to come here and go home with nothing!

“We need to be getting three points every time we’re at the Keepmoat.”

Evina was keen to stress the importance of striking a balance between entertainment and managing the game correctly.

“I believe we need to not give ourselves a mountain to climb every time,” he said.

“A lot of the time we go 1-0 down after we try to attack too much too early and then we’ve left gaps and teams have exploited that.

“You have to get the right balance. You can’t sit back or throw the kitchen sink in the first fifteen minutes and be 2-0 down.

“They (Walsall) are a good team who play good football but we’ve played against other top teams and done really well against them so we’re not going to treat it any differently, we’ll look to go and get three points against them.”
