Ferguson pre-Iron

Gaffer relishing derby contest as Rovers look for eight unbeaten away from home.

Darren Ferguson’s plans for Rovers’ trip to Scunthorpe on Saturday were handed a major boost by the return of two – maybe three – key figures.

Cameron Stewart and Andy Butler look set to be included in the squad to face the Iron while Nathan Tyson – who bagged four goals against the same opposition last term – could also feature.

“Cameron Stewart came through 60 minutes in the U21’s game and he’ll be fine,” began Ferguson.

“Butts (Butler) has trained and he’ll be fine. Tyson will probably train on Friday, so we’re getting them back which is very important.

“Conor (Grant) still has to be a doubt for Saturday but the other three have a chance – Butler and Stewart will be fit, there’s no doubt about that.

“We needed the bodies back, there’s no question about that. They’re important ones as well but we’ve got to be careful with them.”

Rovers are looking to stretch their unbeaten away run to eight games and, in the process, avenge a 1-0 Boxing Day loss to United on a ground where they have won three of their last four games.

“We want to make sure that it’s a positive result and we can start on another run again,” said Ferguson.

“We want to finish as high as we can, get as many points as we can and we’ve got to start on Saturday.

“I think they (the trio of derbies) are big, there’s no point in shying away from that.

“It could be a pivotal month. I’m not one for writing seasons off – I want us to get as many points as we can – and its important that when you’ve lost a couple on the bounce, Saturday is a big game.

“It’s a derby; it could be a good game for a lot of fans.”
