Sunderland loanee striker ready for Iron clash.Lynden Gooch was eagerly anticipating his first taste of derby football when Rovers travel to local rivals Scunthorpe.
The Sunderland loanee said he could call on his experiences of watching the Tyne-Tees derby heading in to the clash at Glanford Park.
“I know it’s a local derby and it will be passionate,” he said.
“We need the result, that’s all that matters. We’ve had a few bad results in the past couple of weeks and we need to put that right straight away.
“I’ve seen derbies up in the north-east so hopefully I’ll be ready for it and I like playing in those type of games, I want to play in the big games and I like to think I can handle the pressure.
“Everyone forgets about form and you’re just focussed on winning the game for the club and the fans – and yourself!”
American Gooch, who has played all three games as a second striker since his arrival from the Stadium of Light, said that he thinks there is more to come from him but he can handle the physicality of the English game.
“They haven’t seen the best of me,” he admitted.
“Once I get to know the players – like I have now – and get to know the system better then you’ll see a lot more. In terms of scoring goals, I know I need to get more shots off.
“I’m short and stocky but I’m strong and able to handle it, I’ve been used to that playing in the Conference last year (with Gateshead) so it’s not too bad!”
