PREVIEW: Reds v DRFC

18 February 2016

Saturday 20th February 2016 (3pm), Sky Bet League One, Oakwell.

Having suffered a narrow defeat at the hands of Sheffield United on Saturday, Rovers return to action with another South Yorkshire derby when they make the short journey to face Barnsley at Oakwell.

Rovers have not lost on the road since 27th October 2015.

A win for Darren Ferguson’s side would be their first double of the season having beaten the Tykes 2-1 at Keepmoat Stadium in October.

Keshi Anderson put Rovers in front just after the half hour mark before Sam Winnall responded with a looping header on the hour. Richard Chaplow’s near post drive in injury time ensured the bragging rights – and the three points – stayed with Rovers.

Since then however, Barnsley – who went on an eight game losing streak – have reached the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy final, leapfrogged Rovers in the table and parted ways with manager Lee Johnson.

Oakwell has been a relatively happy hunting ground for Rovers down the years with 10 wins in 35 games on the Reds’ patch; the latest of which came in March 2010 when James Coppinger’s 35th minute strike separated the two fierce rivals.

Last season saw the shares spoiled as Theo Robinson netted a second half equaliser to cancel out Lewin Nyatanga’s early opener.

TEAM NEWS: Goalkeeper Thorsten Stuckmann will vie for a starting spot against on loan Chris Neal while Conor Grant and James Coppinger should return.
