Foundation Friday- Triumphs Continue

29 January 2016

The remarkable achievements of the Club Doncaster Foundation continue to help and improve the lives of people within the Borough.

As a non-profit, self funding registered charity the Foundation has achieved over 30 years of inspiring positive change, participation in sport, physical activity and education.

Offering a variety of different programmes and projects to unite the community, the Foundation is now in its strongest position ever.

The education sector of the Foundation- the newly re-branded Club Doncaster Sports College has had staggering success since its formation in 2008.  The growth of the Sports College has been so rapid that a brand new education facility within the East Stand at the Keepmoat Stadium had to be built to deal with demand for places. We currently have over 120 learners and plan to expand even further in 2016/17.

NCS Doncaster is another successful programme that the Foundation delivers. In 2015 alone, 505 young people took part in our NCS activities. Students gained new life skills and additional qualifications through the course and contributed to over 15,000 volunteering hours to social impact activity in the local community.

Cycling programmes, walking football, Doncaster Kicks and new health initiatives are also further examples of how the Foundation is helping the community to thrive.

Chief Executive Jim Lord joined Club Doncaster in August 2015 and is delighted with the progress of the Foundation.

“There is such an energy, enthusiasm and pride amongst the Club Doncaster Foundation team,” Lord said.

“When I came into the Foundation, it was in a really strong position, Liam Scully, Jenna Scully, Marie Hepburn and the whole Foundation team has done a fantastic job, the development and progress over the past five years has been amazing.

“We are fortunate to have great support from the trustees and we have huge backing from the owners, who are very proud of the Foundation and ambitious that the Club Doncaster Foundation can really make a difference.

“Looking ahead we’re going to focus on 4 key areas of development– Education, Participation, Engagement and Health & Wellbeing. We’re determined to play a significant role in making Doncaster the best place it possibly can be and through our initiatives and activities help to improve the lives of people right across the borough.”
