Saturday 23rd January 2016 (3pm), Sky Bet League One, Highbury.Doncaster Rovers head to the Fylde coast looking to achieve their first double of the season.
Rovers, under then manager Paul Dickov registered a 2-0 win – their first ever over the Cod Army – back in August 2015 thanks to goals from James Coppinger and Curtis Main.
Since then, both Dickov and his opposite number that day, Graham Alexander have both been replaced and in a bizarre twist both by fellow countrymen in Darren Ferguson and Steven Pressley respectively!
Ferguson (50% win ratio) has undeniably had the greater impact on his new side who are just six points from the play-off places. Pressley (35% win ratio) on the other hand has a hard task of keeping the Lancashire club in the division as they are currently outside the relegation zone by just one point after their 1-1 draw with at Colchester United in midweek.
Both sides met last season for the first ever time and the honours went to Town in a 3-1 win at Highbury.
Stephen Dobbie put the hosts ahead early on and despite a deflected effort from Nathan Tyson, against his former club, Rovers were second best throughout and soundly beaten after further goals from Liam McAlinden and David Ball.
The reverse was memorable for how forgettable it was with both sides playing out a mid-table dead rubber which was infamous for its subsequent YouTube highlights package which received over one million views.
TEAM NEWS: Sunderland loanee Lynden Gooch could make his Rovers debut. However, Andy Butler (groin), Cameron Stewart (neck) and Harry Middleton (hamstring) are to miss out through injury while Nathan Tyson looks doubtful.
