Williams On Target

22 January 2016

Hitman has goals target in his sights as Rovers travel to Fleetwood on Saturday.

Andy Williams remains positive that he will hit his goals target for the campaign, although he won’t reveal what it is!

The front man, who won League One’s Player of the Month award for December 2015, has netted 11 goals in his 14 games after a “slow start” where he scored three goals in nineteen appearances.
“I don’t share them (goalscoring targets),” said Williams.

“It was a bit of a slow start so I’m probably a little behind where I’d like to be but there’s still twenty games left so I’m more than capable of hitting my target.

“I’ve turned it round and I’ve always had confidence that when the chances started to come again I’d find the back of the net and thankfully it’s going well for me at the moment in front of goal.”

Williams’ rich vein of form has coincided with Rovers’ resurgence up the Sky Bet League One table and a new found confidence prior to heading to face Fleetwood Town on Saturday.

“After the start we had it couldn’t really get any worse but there’s a good group of lads here with good quality and we’re showing the quality we’ve got with the performances and the results we need,” he said.

“It will be a tough test. They played in the week and we had them watched, they’re a tough side and it’s a tough place to go. It’s quite far away for us and it will be a tricky test but hopefully one that we can deal with.

“I think they like to play a lot of football, they’ve very similar to the side that I was in last season (at Swindon Town), they play out from the back so we know what we’re coming up against and hopefully we can do a job on them on the weekend.”
