Doncaster Rovers are delighted to announce that in form striker Andy Williams has been named the Sky Bet League 1 Player of the Month for December.
Williams arrived at Rovers in the summer from Swindon Town and has scored 10 goals in his last 12 matches, most recently against Southend United, taking his tally to 13 for the season. As well as his all-round play in the penalty area, Williams’ wonderfully inventive drag back and ‘Bergkamp-esque’ finish against Oldham Athletic was the pick of his four goals in as many games.
Manager Darren Ferguson said: “I am absolutely delighted for Andy, it’s fantastic news for him and the club. Full credit to him, he is flying at the minute and long may it continue.
“His attitude on and off the pitch is brilliant and he deserves this award for his hard work, effort and goals over the last few weeks.”
Williams himself also stated his delight with the award. “To win this award is really pleasing,” he said.
"I’m delighted with it and with my form over the Christmas period.
“As a footballer you make a lot of sacrifices and it's nice to be rewarded at the end of it all. I want to thank the lads and all the staff for their support in helping me reach the form that I am in. I would also like to thank the fans for their brilliant support."
Sky Sports’ Football League pundit Don Goodman said: “Andy has been consistently brilliant for Doncaster over the last two months in Sky Bet League 1.
“His goals – eight in the League since the end of October – have proved invaluable for Doncaster and has turned their form around.”
Everyone at the club would like to congratulate Andy on his award!
