Blair's On Pitch Project

6 July 2016

Midfielder aiming to work his magic on Rovers as he aims for third career promotion.

Matty Blair has stated that all eyes are on a season starting showdown with Accrington Stanley on 6th August.

The summer recruit, who joined from local rivals Mansfield Town, is eager to register a positive pre-season before laying “a marker” as Rovers aim for an instant return to League One.

“It’s been good, very tough,” Blair said of pre-season thus far.

“We’ve had some running sessions which have been difficult but then straight to the balls and it’s been good and I’ve really enjoyed it.

“I phoned home and said how excited I was to be here and how exciting it was looking for the season.

“All pre seasons are important; if you’ve had a good one it sets you up nicely for the start of the season and this is as important as ever. We’re going for promotion so this is the most important one.”

Blair, one of eight summer signings, said that he felt right at home and is hoping that friendly fixtures against Premier League Middlesbrough and Rafa Benitez’s Newcastle United can stand Rovers in good stead.

“I noticed straight away, when I walked through the door, I felt like I’ve known the lads for years,” he said.

“They’re a great set of lads, very down to earth but up for a laugh. More importantly were ready to work and get that ultimate goal.

“It’ll be exciting, good to get match play and match minutes under everyone’s belt. We’ve got a couple of good fixtures so we’re looking forward to them.

“I never look in to pre-season friendly results too much, its all about performance and fitness work more than anything.

“It all leads up to 6th August and Accrington away, it’s a good game to go to and set your mark early.”
