Ferguson: Feeling Good

14 July 2016

Manager content with progression shown by his troops as season rapidly approaches.

Darren Ferguson gave his thoughts on Tuesday evening’s convincing win over Rossington Main.

Goals from James Coppinger, Will Longbottom, Tommy Rowe and Andy Williams secured the victory as new players were bedded in and fitness gained.

“We played two teams, both teams really pleased me but it was a fitness exercise at the end of the day,” said Ferguson.

“It doesn’t look like we picked up any knocks or anything so that’s always good.

“The goals were very good, quality goals so that was pleasing so it was a good night.”

The Rovers’ manager also expressed his delight over the way in which the players used what they had learnt in training to improve throughout the game and how obvious that was.

“The way they’ve gone about it and the work ethic was very, very good and one or two of the things we worked on we could clearly see on the pitch so that was pleasing,” he said.

“The opposition really is irrelevant, you’re always looking at the standards you set and I thought the way the lads went about it was very good.”

Attentions now turn to Keepmoat Stadium on Saturday where the Rovers host Premier League newcomers Middlesbrough in the first home friendly of the season.

“It’ll be different to the game on Tuesday, we will need to do a lot more defensive work for them because they will probably have a lot more of the ball,” Ferguson continued.

“Well work on things that hopefully they’ll take into the game but we also hope well see certain things from tonight’s game as well.”
