Getting to know...Middlesbrough

Introducing some of the Premier League stars we may face in pre-season.

While Rovers will welcome back familiar faces George Friend and James Husband when Premier League new boys Middlesbrough visit Keepmoat Stadium, there are some of Aitor Karanka’s side with whom you may not be familiar.

www.doncasterroversfc.co.uk takes a look at some of the figures who could feature in the pre-season friendly on Saturday 16th July.

Viktor Fischer – Danish international Fischer was Aitor Karanka’s first summer signing when he made the move from Dutch giants Ajax to Teesside for a figure reported to be over £4M.
The 22 year old – who has two international goals – will light up the Premier League if he replicates his Eredivisie exploits. A versatile attacking midfielder, he won the Dutch top flight twice while at the Amsterdam ArenA and plundered 33 goals in 111 games.

Bernardo Espinosa – A largely unknown quantity, the Colombian defender was integral to helping former side Sporting Gijon return to the Spanish top flight in 2015 and was duly was voted the best defender outside La Liga. Karanka fought off reported interest from Watford, Everton and Bournemouth to land the 26 year old during the close season.

Cristhian Stuani – Forward Stuani was part of the Uruguay squad which competed in the Copa America over the summer. Despite being alongside PSG’s Edison Cavani and Barcelona’s Luis Suarez, the former World Cup winners surprisingly did not progress beyond the group stages. The former Reggina and Espanyol striker signed after last year’s pre season friendly against Rovers for a fee believed to be around £2.5M and scored 11 goals in his first season in English football.

Meanwhile Marten de Roon, James Wilson and Tim Krul have all being linked with moves to the Riverside Stadium.
