Turf At The Top

Club Doncaster has bolstered its grounds department with the acquisition of two apprentices in Elliott Bashford and Jake Davis.

While Elliott is a former volunteer from Aston Comprehensive, Jake is a former Club Doncaster Foundation pupil and Head Groundsman Jim Davison explained how important a step it is for the club to increase the number of staff working on maintaining our state of the art facilities.

“The two apprentices look after not only matchday activities but synthetic surfaces – pitches two and three – and spend time at Cantley Park Training Ground,” he said.

“They’ve undertaken a level 2 course in horticulture / fine turf in grounsdmanship at Barnsley College.

“It’s good news; what we need and means we can spend more time on other projects so we can keep everything tip top.

“It’s quite an exciting time, it’s something that we haven’t embarked upon for a good number of years but we’re at a stage now where the Club Doncaster brand is getting bigger and we need people that can cover all sites, all fixtures etc. as we have to wear different hats.”

Everyone at Club Doncaster would like to welcome Elliott and Jake to the grounds department which now has six full time members of staff and two volunteers. (Other staff include Jonathan Banner Tom Linley, Andy Cartwright, Jake Marshall and Mark Crompton).
