On Friday Abi Rodwell will join many others from the Football League as she represents DRFC on the 2016 Yorkshire to Amsterdam bike ride for Prostate Cancer.
Having completed the challenge last year, this years route is slightly different and will see Abi cycle from Yorkshire to Amsterdam alongside her dad John Rodwell, for a fantastic cause.Abi said: “Instead of setting off from London, this year we'll be starting from Oakwell in Barnsley, and eventually finishing at the Amsterdam Arena in Amsterdam."
The first day’s route is just short of 70 miles and at the end of day one the group will catch the over night ferry from Hull to Rotterdam before cycling another 75 miles through Holland on day two.
Abi is no stranger to the route from Rotterdam to Ajax’s Amsterdam Arena, having taken part in the challenge last summer. Speaking about her experience last year she said;
“Last year was a challenge, but an unforgettable experience at the same time. I think I'd already signed up for this years ride before even making it back to England!
“Training has been difficult again this year, it’s hard to fit it all in. There have been a lot of late nights and early mornings but it will all be worth it when we cross the finish line!
“My dad has got into his cycling recently and after seeing my photos and hearing about the challenge last year he was really keen to get involved too. It’s great to have someone else signed up to join me over the weekend.
“So far we’ve raised nearly £2,000 but we set ourselves a target of £2,500 so it would be great to beat our target. We’d both like to thank everyone who has donated to our Just-Giving page so far, the support has been amazing.
“I would like to say a huge thank you to Steve Ladd and Just Sport for sending us special personalised Doncaster Rovers jerseys ahead of the ride, so we can cycle into Amsterdam sporting club colours."
