Gary McSheffrey says he his delighted to have signed permanently for Doncaster Rovers and says the only way he is thinking is a promotion season.
Having signed a one year contract on Monday McSheffrey said;“I’m delighted it’s all over the line now. We were gutted that we couldn’t stay up last season despite having a good go in the end but we have to take that on the chin, swallow our medicine and react in the right way which is with promotion this season."
McSheffrey went on to say how much of an influence Darren Ferguson had over his decision to return to Rovers.
“I really like his [Darren Ferguson] honesty. He knows his players very well and I like his football philosophy. The way he goes about his business and his style of play was a key factor for me signing. I also know Gavin Strachan very well from my early days at Coventry and our mutual respect for one another sealed the deal.
“The manager put it out there that he wanted me to stay here and I’m a loyal person. When someone shows that faith and loyalty in me I want to give something back."
Gary McSheffrey became signing number 6 of the summer for Rovers as Darren Ferguson puts together his squad for the 2016/17 promotion campaign and McSheffrey was quick to praise the other signings made.
“The manager has definitely shown his intentions with some of the signings he’s made and he wanted me to be a part of that.
“He’s signed some really good players and I’m glad I’ve joined that group. He knows how to get the best out of his players and that’s going to be important going into the season. We will be ready and the only way we are thinking is a promotion season.
McSheffrey also recognised the importance of the Rovers fans and said they could be crucial next season should results go our way.
“Those two home games we had where we beat Wigan and Coventry, the fans were amazing,” he said.
“The fans really got behind us and it helped a lot. The atmosphere was great and if we’re at the right end of the table this season I can’t wait for more of that. The numbers will come and the fans will get behind us."
