Historic Away Kit

Doncaster Rovers official 2016/17 away shirt is now on sale!

With the 2016/17 Doncaster Rovers official away kit now on sale in store and online HERE we conclude our look at previous away kits that will go down in history as having significance upon the club.

Season: 2002/03
Supplier: Vandanel
Sponsor: Ledger Mobility

Rovers sported a royal blue outfit on the road for the 02/03 season which culminated in promotion from the Conference back to the Football League; thus ending a five year absence.

Sponsored by local company Ledger Mobility, who had won a ‘raffle style’ sponsorship deal, both home and away kits were thrust in to the national spotlight by Rovers’ heroics on television.

They were aided, in no small part, by the goals of talismanic veteran Paul Barnes (above) who netted 16 of his 26 goals for the season away from Belle Vue. And though Dave Penney’s side boasted identical records at home and away (11 wins, 6 draws, 4 losses), they scored for fun on the road at an average of almost 2 goals per game!

Barnes would win the Golden Boot award and Player of the Year accolade as Rovers beat Dagenham and Redbridge 3-2 courtesy of Franny Tierney’s strike in golden goal extra time at Stoke City’s Britannia Stadium.

The shirt also gained repute when then-chairman John Ryan became the oldest professional footballer when he played three minutes as a substitute, for Barnes, in the final away game of the season; a 4-2 win at Hereford United.
