Marquis Hails New Challenge

13 June 2016

Front man speaks to official club website about penning two year deal.

John Marquis has said that he cannot wait to start “a new challenge” after completing his move to Doncaster Rovers.

The striker becomes Rovers’ seventh signing of a busy transfer window for manager Darren Ferguson.

“I’m very happy to have it all sorted now. I’m looking forward to the season ahead, getting back in and getting in with the lads and starting a new challenge,” said the twenty-four year old.

“The manager got in contact with my agent; I came up and met him. I came in and he put on a good presentation, I was really impressed by it and how he wants to take the club forward, how I can help, what I can bring to the team and how the team can help me improve. I was taken by how he presented the club and that’s why I came here.

“We share the same ambitions; we’re looking to get promoted this season – that’s something I’m looking to achieve here and the way that he wants to play. The good and the bad bits about me we agreed on and (this move is about) heading in the right direction for me and my career.”

Marquis’ experience on loan at Northampton from Millwall was one of numerous spells away from the New Den and will act as motivation for his permanent move to South Yorkshire.

“I’ve been here, there and everywhere on loan, not really – in my opinion – been given a fair chance at Millwall so that’s why I’ve been to other places and now I’m a long way from home (London) but its something that I wanted to do; a new chapter and a fresh start,” he said.

“All I can do is look forward to hopefully some successful times here.

“I’ve been to the training ground this morning and I’ve played at the stadium before, it’s a lovely ground to play at week in week out. I’m looking forward to it and want to crack on and get started.”
