Joe Wright has said that he can’t wait to start life at Doncaster Rovers following his free transfer today from Huddersfield Town.
The 21 year old defender has penned a two year deal in his native Yorkshire.
“It’s not far from home, that’s another positive so I know what people are like here in Yorkshire and I’ll hope to use that to my benefit,” said the 6’ 5” youngster.
“I got a phone call from my agent and he said that Doncaster were involved. As soon as he said that then I was delighted.
“It was an easy decision for myself, there were some other clubs involved but really it was a 'no-brainer'.
“The ambition of the club (attracted me), it’s a big club that shouldn’t really be in this league so hopefully we’ll be getting promoted out of the league straight away. We’ve got a brand new stadium and I’ve heard the atmosphere here is very good so I’m looking forward to it.”
Wright, who spent time on loan at Accrington Stanley in their quest for promotion, follows quickly in the footsteps of one time teammate Ross Etheridge in crossing the Pennines to the Keepmoat Stadium.
“It’s obviously a big help, it means that I know someone at the club. Ross is a great goalkeeper; I think he proved that last season when he was playing so I look forward to playing with him again,” he said.
“I’ve got an idea of how teams play and an idea of the opposition that I’ll come up against and how some players play so I can use that to my benefit and try and perform as well as I can.
“I like to step out with the ball, the gaffer spoke to me about that and wants me to continue doing that. I’ll always give 100% no matter what the circumstances.
“The gaffer did a presentation when I came; it was very professional and explained what he expected from myself, the team and how we should play and it made me feel very welcome, very wanted by the club and that’s a good thing.”
