Wright For Rovers

1 June 2016

Doncaster Rovers can today confirm the signing of Joe Wright on a two year deal.

The defender will join the club officially on 1st July 2016 from EFL Championship side Huddersfield Town.

The 21 year-old spent time on loan at League Two side Accrington Stanley last season, making 22 appearances in all competitions.

He was instrumental in helping the Lancashire side finish fourth in the division, with Accrington only missing out on an automatic promotion place on goal difference, however he missed the back end of the campaign through injury.

The centre-half has also been capped by Wales at under 21 level.

Wright becomes Darren Ferguson’s fifth signing of the summer, following the arrival of midfielders Tommy Rowe, Matty Blair Ross Etheridge and Mathieu Baudry.

Speaking about the signing, manager Ferguson said: “He is a Huddersfield player, but he was outstanding for Accrington last season.

“I’m really pleased he has agreed to join because he is a centre-half, a good size, can play from the back and play in a two or three at the back.

“He is one I am pleasantly surprised to get, he was offered something at Huddersfield, but he has seen what we are trying to achieve here.

“We are getting there and hoping for more obviously to build the numbers up even more.”
