PREVIEW: Robins v DRFC

1 March 2016

Tuesday 1st March 2016 (7:45pm), Sky Bet League One, County Ground

Doncaster Rovers hit the road when they travel to face Swindon Town at the County Ground on Tuesday evening.

The visitors have only lost one game in their last 8 away from home; which came in their most recent trip and a 1-0 loss against local rivals Barnsley.

Since, the South Yorkshire side battled to earn a point against play-off aspirants Millwall on Saturday thanks to Richard Chaplow who cancelled out Steve Morison’s early strike.

Swindon also harbour a repeat of last season when they reached the top six before eventually bowing out emphatically in the play-off final to Preston North End at Wembley.

This is mainly due to the red hot form of striker Nicky Ajose who has bagged six goals in his last three games. The livewire forward is no stranger to his former manager Darren Ferguson - whom he played under at Peterborough United – or Rovers fans – having netted on three separate occasions for three separate sides against them.

Ajose was on the scoresheet in this season’s reverse fixture; opening the scoring just after half time in what proved to be a pulsating second half at Keepmoat Stadium. His strike was equalised by Crystal Palace loanee Keshi Anderson on 73 minutes and former Town striker Andy Williams tucked away his penalty seven minutes later to swing the game Rovers’ way. However, Jon Obika – scoring in injury time against Rovers for the second season running - nicked a point at the death.

Historically, Rovers are very much the Robins bogey side. The Wiltshire club have registered just three wins against Doncaster in 21 attempts.

Rovers racked up their ninth win against the Robins at the County Ground last term when a combination of Theo Robinson’s successful penalty and Sam Johnstone’s successful penalty save from Michael Smith.

TEAM NEWS: Gary MacKenzie has returned from his loan spell at Notts County. Paul Keegan (dead leg) is 50/50 while Dany N'Guessan is still out.
