Etheridge To Keep The Moat

25 May 2016

Goalkeeper Ross Etheridge has this afternoon penned a two year deal with Doncaster Rovers.

The 21 year-old will  join the club from fellow English Football League Two side Accrington Stanley on July 1st 2016.

The shot stopper came through the ranks with Derby County and had loan spells with Crewe Alexandra and Stalybridge, before joining Accrington on a permanent deal a year ago.

Etheridge broke through into the first team at the Wham Stadium at the turn of the year and went on to make 24 appearances for Stanley.

The goalkeeper kept nine clean sheets for Accrington, helping them finish in fourth place in the division.

He was part of the team who lined up in the Play-Off semi final matches against AFC Wimbledon, however Accrington were knocked out after an extra time defeat at the Wham Stadium earlier this month.

Manager Darren Ferguson was pleased to complete the deal for the young goalkeeper.

“He was very good for Accrington, helping to get them into the Play-Offs,” said Ferguson.

“Ross has loads of potential, he is a good size and a good kicker of the ball.

“He has loads of improvement in him so we are delighted to get him on board for next season.

“It is important we get players who understand the league and players who are real quality in the league and Ross ticks that box.

“Ross played a large part in Accrington’s success last season and I’m delighted that myself and the board have been able to get him and our other two signings to date over the line.”
