Grecians v ROVERS Preview

11 November 2016

Saturday 12th November 2016 (3pm), Sky Bet League Two, St James Park.

Doncaster Rovers will be hoping to take advantage of Exeter City’s poor home form when they travel to St James Park at the weekend.

The hosts are yet to win at home and have only picked up one of their 16 points this season on home soil, thus are just one point above the relegation zone.

It will be the first league meeting between the sides since the ill-fated 97/98 season for Rovers who were bottom of the pile for the whole season and suffered greatly as the Grecians completed a double over the beleaguered Rovers; a 1-0 win at Belle Vue was followed by a 5-1 humbling in Devon.

In fact, Rovers last win at St James Park was also a 5-1 scoreline in which a Sean Parrish double was complimented by goals from Graeme Jones, Andy Turner and Steve Harper.

The last time Rovers faced Exeter was in the FA Cup second round back in 2004. Having defeated Tiverton in the first round, Rovers made the long jaunt back to the West Country and were upset by the Conference outfit courtesy of goals from Steve Flack and a speculative effort from Dean Moxey saw off Dave Penney’s side. The fact that Gregg Blundell pulled a goal back was of no consolation, neither was the fact that the Grecians drew Manchester United in the third round!

TEAM NEWS: Rovers are at near full strength with Andy Butler and Tommy Rowe to come back following knocks. Only Andy Williams (mid-term) remains sidelined. Aaron Taylor-Sinclair, Luke McCullough and Gary McSheffrey are out until the New Year at least.
