Pompey v ROVERS preview

29 September 2016

Saturday 1st October 2016 (3pm), Sky Bet League Two, Fratton Park.

Rovers make their longest journey of the season so far, to arguably the toughest venue in League Two; Fratton Park.

That should not deter Doncaster though, in fact their recent record of two wins in their last three visits to Portsmouth should act as inspiration at the conclusion of a week battling top six candidates.

With up to five players to have played for both sides, there will be some familiar faces coming across old friends.

Darren Ferguson’s attacking Doncaster side are in third place, one place above Paul Cook’s Pompey by virtue of goals scored and a win on the south coast would go a long way to affirming either teams promotion credentials.

That’s exactly what Rovers showed the last time they were at Fratton Park when Iain Hume poked out a leg in the first half to settle a League One fixture in 2012 and three points for Dean Saunders’ side.

A beleaguered Pompey showed up in the return and salvaged a draw from the title-bound Rovers amid a horror show of a season which saw them finish bottom; 19 points from safety and the former FA Cup winners are yet to return!

TEAM NEWS: Defender Niall Mason has a chance of being included in the squad for the long trip south but the game will be one too early for Craig Alcock.
