Three awards for Marquis

30 April 2017

John Marquis picked up three awards as Rovers celebrated promotion at their annual end of season awards.

Marquis was named Player of the Season after a campaign where his 26 goals have fired Rovers to promotion.

His strike in the home draw with Wycombe Wanderers was named Goal of the Season, while he shared the Players’ Player of the Year prize with captain James Coppinger.

Marquis said: “These personal awards are fantastic, but I wouldn’t be getting them without the team creating chances for me.

“All of my team-mates are as deserving of these awards as I am. We have worked hard to win promotion and we can feel very confident about the future.”

Will Longbottom, who scored his first senior goal for the club in the Checkatrade Trophy clash with Derby County, was named Young Player of the Year.

Jan Milner was recognised by the Club Doncaster Foundation for her efforts in the community, while Eric Randerson received a Special Achievement Award after more than 30 years working contributing to the club.

Jan, a former England women’s international, is a well-known figure among fans. She has spent years working in the community, has created and developed  the Club Doncaster walking football team and can be found on matchdays as a steward in the South Stand.

Eric has been part of the Club Doncaster Foundation since it was formed in 1986, taking a key role as it grew into the operation it is now.

The full winners were:

Goal of the Season: John Marquis v Wycombe (H)
Players’ Player of the Year: James Coppinger and John Marquis
