Rovers missed the chance to extend their lead at the top of the table with a defeat at Wycombe Wanderers.

Darren Ferguson made four changes, with Ian Lawlor, Andy Butler,  Luke McCullough, James Coppinger all returning to the starting XI.

Rovers were the first to threaten, with Tommy Rowe's drive held by Jamal Blackman at the second attempt.

Wycombe had come out to attack, and Sam Saunders tried an ambitious half-volley from the halfway line which sailed over Lawlor's bar.

They did go ahead after nine minutes. Joe Jacobson's long throw was met by Adebayo Akinfenwa whose looping header came back off the underside of the bar and fell nicely for Luke O'Nien who got down low to head home.

Rovers continued to create chances in an open match. Luke McCullough had an effort blocked after a Coppinger corner, before May levelled after 19 minutes.

He broke free down the right, and his looping effort sailed into the far bottom corner.

Rovers pushed for a second goal, and created plenty of chances.

John Marquis fired a left-footed shot just wide after a great move down the right, before Rowe glanced a header wide from a corner and fired an effort off the outside of a post after creating space for himself just outside the area.

Rovers looked the most likely to get the game's third goal, but instead it went to the home side. It was the same three players from the home side involved as the first - Jacobson's long free-kick was met by Akinfenwa, with O'Nien turning the ball home.

Rovers again created the best chances for the remainder of the second half. Coppinger had an effort blocked at the near post, with Rowe also seeing an effort deflected which his captain just could not get on the end of.

Akinfenwa spurned a great chance to put the home side 3-1 up a couple of minutes before the break. He got on to the end of a long free-kick but could only direct his powerful header over.

Neither side made any changes at the break, with Rovers enjoying plenty of the ball in the opening exchanges.

Grant won an early corner, while McSheffrey was squeezed out by two defenders after being played in by Mason.

But the home side had the first real chance after Akinfenwa took down a long ball, thankfully Baudry was on hand to close down the shot.

Marquis threatened after McSheffrey flicked a long ball into his path. He cut inside before trying to place a shot which was deflected away.

Baudry threatened when the ball was played back in following the resulting corner, with a powerful header at the near post from Coppinger's delivery which went just wide.

The home side had a dangerous free-kick just outside the area after Butler's late challenge on Kashket.

Sido Jombati took the set-piece, but could only hit at against the Rovers wall.

Ferguson had seen enough and brought the trickery of Liam Mandeville off the bench, replacing captain Coppinger.

Grant shot wide at the near post after Marquis' lay-off, though both players were under pressre as the home side defended in numbers.

Blackman saved with his legs to deny Rowe after 75 minutes. The hard-working Marquis found the midfielder, whose powerful effort was blocked by the home keeper.

Moments later Rowe had another shot deflected behind for a corner, but Rovers struggled to convert their opportunities and eventually had to accept defeat.
