Andrew hails Rovers' fitness

6 August 2017

Danny Andrew reckons the impressive fitness of Rovers’ players stands them in good stead after opening the 2017/18 Sky Bet League One season with a goalless draw.

Rovers could not find a way through against Gillingham at the Keepmoat Stadium, but maintained a strong level of performance from the first minute until the last.

Andrew said: “I’ve not been at a team where they have been this fit - some of the running they were putting in during pre-season was frightening really.

“My target is to play as many games as I can. I’ve not had too many times where I’ve played two solid seasons - I played 50 times last year so repeating that has to be a target really.”

Rovers just could not find a way past the impressive visiting goalkeeper Tomas Holy, but the feeling in the dressing room after the game was positive.

Andrew added: “It was mixed really - we are a bit disappointed not to get the win which we thought we deserved, and we had some great chances, but as a defender to come away with a clean sheet is as much as you can ask for.

“It was a good performance, really. It’s a tough league, we take each game as it comes and if we keep performing like that we’ll definitely win more than we lose.”

Rovers head to Bradford City on Tuesday in the Carabao Cup before going to Blackburn Rovers next Saturday in Sky Bet League One. Get your tickets for both games, or the visit of Blackpool on Saturday August 19, from the Club Doncaster Box Office now at tickets.clubdoncaster.co.uk.
