Manager Darren Ferguson reckons that Saturday’s visitors Blackpool will provide a difficult test for his side at the Keepmoat.
Rovers return home following two away trips in league and cup, and face a Blackpool side who were promoted via the League Two play-offs, joining Rovers in earning promotion back to Sky Bet League One at the first attempt.
Despite Rovers’ promising start to the season, Ferguson is under no illusion that the Seasiders will prove to be a strong opponent on Saturday.
“They’ve got a lot of good attributes in their team, they’re an energetic side with a lot of pace in that side,” Ferguson said.
“They’ve played three different formations in their three games so they’re very flexible, we need to make sure we have control of the ball because they will cause us problems.
“It’ll be a difficult game, but we’ve got great energy and they’ll have to match that, we have to stay patient and make it tough for them.”
Ferguson has been impressed with the strength of the squad so far this season, and he feels that he isn’t short of players that can come on and make an impact.
“I thought we were very strong on the bench last week, when I look at an opponent, I look at their bench and see the depth of the squad and, for me we look a lot stronger,” Ferguson said.
“In an ideal world you want two defenders, two midfielders, two strikers and a goalkeeper, and I felt we were strong, and with the players that are hopefully returning that’s not a bad squad.
“Alfie May’s got two in two and looks a real threat off the bench, and he took his goal on Saturday really well, he’s been very good coming on, and with Mandeville and Williams I’ve got really good options there.”
