Manager Darren Ferguson is keen for his side to make sure they maintain their unbeaten start to the season in Saturday’s Sky Bet League One visit to AFC Wimbledon.
Rovers travel to the capital at the weekend following Tuesday night’s 2-0 win over Hull City in the Carabao Cup second round, and Ferguson wants to make sure that Rovers keep improving each game.
“We want to keep the run going, a win would be great, we want to finish the month strong and if we get that win then the month has been very positive for us, we could’ve and should’ve won all our games,” Ferguson said.
“Saturday is an important game, we feel we’ve made good progress after last Saturday, we know we’ve got to be solid and the most important thing for me is playing forward when you go ahead.
“Wimbledon have been in every game and they’ve been unlucky not to get a win, even last week the score line was harsh on them, it’s a tough place to go but we’re confident we can go there and get the win.”
Tuesday night’s win over Hull City was rewarded with a Carabao Cup third round away trip to Premier League giants Arsenal, and Ferguson was delighted with the draw.
“It is great news for everybody connected with the football club, it’s fantastic and as you’d expect there’s been a buzz around the training ground,” Ferguson said.
“We have to concentrate because the most important thing is we go in to that game full of confidence, hopefully in a good league position and that could make the game even easier to play.
“We have to put it to bed for now, September is a huge month for us already with eight games and it’s a busy schedule, the players have to perform well in the league first, but there’s no getting away from it because it’s such a brilliant draw for the club.”
