Ferguson praises attitude

30 August 2017

Darren Ferguson praised the attitude of his Rovers players after they beat Grimsby Town 4-3 on penalties in the Checkatrade Trophy.

Rovers gained the extra bonus point thanks to three Marko Marosi saves in the shootout after a 1-1 draw in normal time, and Ferguson says the players that came in did a good job.

“I’m delighted, I thought it was a really good performance and we showed some real quality with our quick passing,” he said.

“We mixed it up in the second half and tried a few different things and still managed to gain a lot of control within the game.

“We’ve rounded off a fairly positive month, we’ve only had one poor result and performance in our first seven games which is a solid start for us.”

Andy Williams was the man on the scoresheet for Rovers at Blundell Park and the manager believes he now has a lot of options in attacking areas of the pitch.

“It was a good goal from Andy, he was a threat all night and worked really hard trying to create chances,” he added.

“I’ve got good strikers at the club, all of them are making it difficult for me as they’re all making an impact and offer us something different when they’re on the field.

“When you have the quality we have then there are always going to be tough calls to make each week and that’s nice to have.”
