Ferguson thanks Rovers fans

6 August 2017

Darren Ferguson thanked the Doncaster Rovers supporters after their backing on the opening day of the Sky Bet League One season.

Rovers were unable to break down Gillingham and had to settle for a point in a goalless draw, but close to 7,000 home fans in a crowd of more than 7,500 kept backing the players throughout.

Ferguson said: “You want to have good home form and I thought the fans were really good, there wasn’t any frustration when we didn’t get a goal because they could see we were putting in a good performance.

“Gillingham’s players were delighted to get a point here because they knew how well we played.”

Chances came and went for Rovers, and Ferguson felt there were plenty of positives to take from the game.

He added: “It was a game we should have won, I was very pleased with the majority of the performance and we played some good stuff. Overall I’m pleased, just disappointed we didn’t get the three points I felt we deserved.

“The most important thing was the result and it is two points dropped, but a lot of the stuff we wanted they did very well. Unfortunately we just didn’t get the rub of the green and their keeper made three fantastic saves.”

Rovers head to Bradford City on Tuesday in the Carabao Cup before going to Blackburn Rovers next Saturday in Sky Bet League One. Get your tickets for both games, or the visit of Blackpool on Saturday August 19, from the Club Doncaster Box Office now at tickets.clubdoncaster.co.uk.
