Kongolo enjoying loan spell

28 August 2017

Rodney Kongolo is keen to make an impact during his loan spell at Doncaster Rovers.

The Manchester City midfielder played the final half hour at AFC Wimbledon on Saturday, having started in both the club’s Carabao Cup wins.

“Everybody has been great since I came in, the manager is a very good coach and he wants to help me improve and he has worked with me a lot already,” he said.

“It’s very different to what I’m used to, the levels are much higher, and you have to perform well in this league compared to the under 23s, but this is a good level of football and it’s one that I like, I’m really enjoying my football.

“I just want to improve myself and help the team out, the team plays just the way I like and it suits me very well, and there is a lot of quality in this side and this will only help me to improve too.”

Saturday’s loss at AFC Wimbledon was frustrating, but Kongolo expects a reaction from his team-mates.

“It’s never nice to lose and the way that they played made it very difficult for us to play, the weather conditions didn’t help us too, that made it very hard for us,” Kongolo said.

“The pitch was very dry and sticky, the ball just didn’t drop for us and that didn’t help, but we’ve got to keep going and this is only the first game we’ve lost all season so we have to make things right in the next game.”
