May is confident

23 August 2017

Forward Alfie May is full of confidence after adding to his early season tally with a goal against Hull City in the Carabao Cup.

The 24-year-old scored the first in Rovers’ 2-0 win over the Tigers at the Keepmoat Stadium to send Darren Ferguson’s side into the third round pot, and May wants to continue his ruthlessness.

“I’m really confident at the moment and just keep saying to myself that the goal does not move and you just have to be ruthless and don’t be nervous,” he said.

“We said at half time that we needed to show a bit more aggression because we were at home and we did not really do that in the first half, we just had to make sure that we did not panic.

“Issam Ben Khemis could have had a shot himself but he played a lovely ball into me, I took it inside and I knew the defender would have ran past me and that would have put off the keeper, so I just placed it in the corner.”

May is into his first full season with the side after signing for Rovers in the 16/17 January transfer window, and having a full pre-season with the club has benefitted his development.

“I’ve learnt a lot during pre-season for example my positioning in front of goal, and it is something that you concentrate on everyday in training,” he added.

“I feel like I have benefitted massively from a full pre-season with the club, obviously training everyday helps too.

“I want to learn as much as I can and I feel, having someone like John Marquis beside me who scored a lot of goals last season, can only be a positive for the improvement in my game.”

We return to the Keepmoat Stadium on Saturday September 2 against Peterborough United in Sky Bet League One, tickets are available from the Club Doncaster Box Office, by calling 01302 762 576, or by going to tickets.clubdoncaster.co.uk.
