No fear for Marquis

13 August 2017

John Marquis believes the 3-1 victory at Blackburn shows Rovers have nothing to fear this season.

Rovers’ No.9 got off the mark for the 2017/18 season with the opening goal in the victory, and reckons there is a real belief among his team-mates after two wins and a draw in their opening three games of the campaign.

He said: “Nothing is won or lost in the first couple of games, but it was a professional performance and a big result away from home. Any hangover people may have thought there was from the end of last season is not there.

“When we got after them we showed we are a good side, we’ve got nothing to fear and can cause teams some real problems this season. We believe we are a good side, and everyone in that changing room is excited by the challenges ahead.”

The discipline of the Rovers players was a key factor in victory, something Marquis reckons will be crucial this season.

He added: “We stuck to our gameplan, and it was a very professional performance. We kept our shape well when we didn’t have the ball.

“Buts and Joe Wright were immense in defence, as were the whole backline, and were unlucky to concede via a deflected goal. We’re going to have a lot of different games, we have nothing to fear looking at this performance and have to keep it going into the other games.”
