Whiteman wants more goals

10 August 2017

Ben Whiteman is looking to continue his good run of form this weekend as Rovers travel to face Blackburn in Sky Bet League One.

The 21-year-old midfielder scored his first goal for the club against Bradford City on Tuesday evening, and says he is looking for more of the same in the game at Ewood Park.

“I’m looking to try and improve my goal tally from last season, the quality of the team should allow me to do that but I have to be disciplined and know when to make runs forward,” he said.

“A lot of goals I scored last year were similar to the one against Bradford, I like to strike the ball with the side of my foot and create some pace on it.

“I enjoyed the celebration, I finished the goal well and it was late in the game so I was happy to go and celebrate in front of the fans.”

Whiteman has slotted in to the defensive midfield role with ease in the opening two competitive fixtures and feels that is a position which suites his combative style of play.

“I like the physical side of the game, I enjoy getting my foot in and making things happen which helps me to develop the defensive side of my game as well,” he added.

“The standard in training has been really high, the manager and his coaching staff won’t let that slip and we need to go into every session as if it’s a game.

“Blackburn have got a squad full of quality players but so have we and we believe we can go there and get the three points.”

Season Memberships and tickets for the home game against Blackpool are still available from the Club Doncaster Box Office, at tickets.clubdoncaster.co.uk or on 01302 762 576.
