Wright aims for consistency

18 August 2017

Joe Wright says that he is keen to cement his place in Darren Ferguson’s starting XI in his second season with Rovers.

Wright has started all three competitive games this season in the absence of the injured Mathieu Baudry, and feels the team have started strongly on all fronts.

“We dominated at Bradford and 3-2 probably flattered them, I thought we were a lot better on the day,” he said.

“Last weekend saw us put down a big marker and for us to go to Blackburn, who will be up there, and do what we did it speaks for itself.

“We had a game plan to try and silence the crowd, and keep the ball more than we normally would, and in the second half we came out flying and really frustrated them.”

As he continues to improve as a defender, Wright is keen to learn from some of the more experienced heads in the Rovers side.

“I’ve always thought if I got a run in the team I’d do well, and playing with someone with the experience of Andy Butler really helps,” he added.

“As a team we are learning from each other and it’s good, we’re trying to help each other develop and that will only help the team, there’s a lot of quality across the back five and everyone is performing really well.

“It’s just about keeping my performances consistent for me and that’s key and the gaffer has touched on that with me too, and I’ve got a run in the team now and I want it to stay like that.”

Tickets are still available for this weekend’s game against Blackpool from the Club Doncaster Box Office, on 01302 762 576, or by going to tickets.clubdoncaster.co.uk.
