Burton Albion U18 1 Rovers U18 3

2 December 2017

Rovers’ Academy side stretched their unbeaten run to five games with a 3-1 victory at Burton Albion.

Rovers came out strong in the opening exchanges at St George’s Park as Kane Bingley headed goalward, forcing Oliver Fairbrother into a right-handed par away from goal.

James Leverton came out quickly to stamp out danger from Ben Hart’s cross and, although he was beaten after 15 minutes, the goal was disallowed for a foul on the visiting keeper.

The best chance of the opening half for Rovers came towards the break when Matthew Overton pulled the trigger from the edge of the box and the ball ricocheted off the right-hand side post before bouncing back out into the arms of a grateful Fairbrother.

In the second half Rovers continued their neat attacking play, except this time they were able to capitalise other chances.

Cody Prior opened the scoring after breaking down the left-hand side and bursting into his box. He shrugged off the home defenders and slotted the ball past Fairbrother to give Rovers the lead.

Full-back Jordan Tucker made it two shortly afterwards with a great effort which found the top-left corner of the goal from the edge of the area.

Bingley's bicycle kick, from a Danny Amos corner, made it 3-0 with the game approaching the hour mark and effectively sealed the points.

Substitute Omar Sanyang saw an effort from 25-yards rattle the woodwork – a huge let off for the young Brewers as Rovers pushed to make it four.

The young Brewers did snatch a goal back when Kyle Clamp forced the ball home after Leverton could not hold his initial shot, but Paul Stancliffe’s men ultimately saw out the game comfortably.
