Complete performance impresses boss

3 December 2017

Darren Ferguson felt Rovers produced their most complete performance of the season as they beat Scunthorpe United 3-0 in the Emirates FA Cup second round.

A double from Tommy Rowe had Ferguson's side in control before a late strike from substitute Liam Mandeville put Rovers in the hat for the third round.

He said: "We started off really well and pressed them into making mistakes, I think that's the best all round performance we've produced this season.

"Going up against the form team in the country it was always going to be tough and we had to be smart in the way we played.

"Scunthorpe will be right up there at the end of the season but we didn't give them a minute, we kept to our game plan and that paid off for us."

The manager is looking for another cup tie against Premier League opposition in the next round, having already gone up against Arsenal in the Carabao Cup.

"This was probably the toughest game we could have had at this stage and we've come through it, we'll wait and see who we get in the next round," he added.

"Ideally we want a home tie against a team we would fancy our chances against or a big side away as we've already seen this season what that type of draw can do.

"We've been to Arsenal so another of the big sides would be nice, at the start of the season our aim was to reach the third round of both cup competitions and we've done that."

Rovers return to the Keepmoat Stadium to face Oldham Athletic on Saturday December 16, you can buy tickets from the Club Doncaster Box Office, on 01302 762576 or at tickets.clubdoncaster.co.uk
