'Bright' U18s please coach Stancliffe

3 December 2017

Paul Stancliffe felt his side looked bright throughout Saturday’s 3-1 win at Burton Albion.

Rovers turned on the style in the second period with Cody Prior, Jordan Tucker and Kane Bingley scoring in a five-minute burst which blew the young Brewers away.

Stancliffe said: “I’m very pleased with the result. The link-up play with the strikers, the clever passing was really good, we also looked bright and switched on.

“The final ball in the final third is what did let them down in the first-half. The composure did disappear: they knew what they wanted to do but they got a little bit giddy.

“In the second half we set off on the right foot and they got the three deserved goals.”

Stancliffe was particularly pleased to see goals scored by players whose primary roles are defensive.

He added: “It’s pleasing that we got goals from all over the pitch. It’s something we do look at it’s something that we try and do in training, certainly with the wing-backs as we did here.

“We had one or two set-plays too that on another day we might have had a reward out of it. We got away from that with 15 minutes to go when we conceded the goal.

“But, credit to them, they came through that spell and to be honest I felt comfortable through the whole game.”
