Ferguson: Confidence is high

30 December 2017

Darren Ferguson was happy to keep to the winning run going as Rovers beat Rochdale 2-0 in Sky Bet League One.

First half goals from Ben Whiteman and Alfie May made it three league wins in the space of a week, and lifted Rovers into the top half of the table.

He said: “It’s another good win for us and another clean sheet, we did what we had to do and it was all about getting the win for us.

“It wasn’t the easiest pitch to play on but we managed the conditions well and now we’ve put ourselves in a good position with nine points over the Christmas period.

“We got a great start which set us up really, we had a key period in the first half when Lawlor made a save at one end and then we went and made it 2-0.”

Rovers are now five league games unbeaten at the Keepmoat Stadium, and Ferguson believes the turn in fortune has helped his side’s confidence in recent weeks.

He added: “We’re on the best run we’ve been on this season, it shows that if you get a bit of consistency then you can climb the league, now our focus is on the next game.

“The start helped us and we look good at home, we look confident and the mentality within the group is good, in the sense that we’re capable of winning games in different ways.

“We’ve got to try and stay consistent and not let the good run affect us, I’ve been delighted with the players and we always knew that we had to get some wins at this stage of the season.”
