Ferguson delighted with win

24 December 2017

Darren Ferguson praised his side’s determination after they beat Bristol Rovers 1-0 at the Memorial Ground.

Niall Mason’s first-half penalty was enough for Rovers to take three points on the road, and the manager was delighted with the victory.

He said: “The performance was exactly what we needed, we handled the atmosphere very well and controlled the game in the first half.

“When going to places like Bristol Rovers you’re always going to be up against it so we had to manage that and play with composure.

“Second half they got on top and we had to dig in, we had a couple of counter attacks and almost scored again but we did what we needed to do.”

Ferguson is targeting back-to-back wins over the festive period in order to keep Rovers climbing up the Sky Bet League One table.

He added: “We spoke before the game about the busy period coming up, we can take bits from the performance but it’s all about being ready for the next game.

“There isn’t much time between games so the focus will now be on preparing for the next game and looking to get another win.

“We have to go again, at this time of the year with four games in nine days it’s important that we pick up positive results as it can set us up for the second half of the season.”
