Club Doncaster Foundation’s Health and Wellbeing team were part of a Doncaster road safety event last week with the Fire Service, Police and South Yorkshire Transport.
Utilising the range of cycles from the bike library, the CDF team delivered a cycle safety workshop to students from Coppice School Hatfield, a school specially run for students with severe learning difficulties and autism.
Going above and beyond, staff from Club Doncaster Foundation also donated nine bikes to the school, to increase the student’s confidence and allow them to make short journeys.
Delighted with the afternoon, Health and Wellbeing Coordinator, Scott Copeland commented: “It was a great success, the students really enjoyed the afternoon and learnt a range of new skills.
“I’m looking forward to updates from the school about how the students use the donated bikes, hopefully it can make a real difference to their overall health and confidence.”
Funded by Yorkshire Bank, bike libraries across Yorkshire allow anyone to borrow a bike and encourage physical activity free of charge.
Scott continued: “I would like to thank members of the public who have donated to the bike library and supported this worthy cause. I would also like to thank our bike mechanic, Mark, who has serviced all the bikes and made sure they are safe for the students. Support like this is hugely appreciated.”
Head of Foundation, John Davis added: "It's great to have funding through DMBC to enable us to deliver and support such fantastic cycle sessions across the borough."
If you are interested in borrowing a bike, all you need is photo ID and a £10 deposit, which will be refunded when you return the bike.
