Lawlor mentally strong

7 December 2017

Ian Lawlor believes being mentally strong is one of the key attributes to being a top goalkeeper in the EFL.

The 23-year-old has kept five clean sheets in Sky Bet League One this season, and is looking to build on that with a strong defence in front of him.

“There are games when I don’t have much to do for the majority but that’s when concentration is key I need to be ready when I’m called upon to make a save,” he said.

“The lads in front of me do a good job of keeping the ball away from me but when I need to I know I’m ready to make a save.

“It has to be a mental strength to be able to stay focused for the whole game as you never know when you’re going to be needed.”

Rovers travel to face Oxford United in Sky Bet League One this weekend, and Lawlor is looking to continue the momentum which has seen the side lose just once in the league in their past five outings.

“It will be a tough game just like any other in this league, but we go into it full of confidence and believing we can come away with a positive result,” he added.

“We’ve got a lot more consistency in the team recently, the step up in level is clear but we know the standards we can reach.

“There are a run of games coming up for us where we feel we can pick up some points, if we can perform to the level we’ve shown in certain games.”

Rovers return to the Keepmoat Stadium to face Oldham Athletic on Saturday December 16, you can buy tickets from the Club Doncaster Box Office, on 01302 762576 or at tickets.clubdoncaster.co.uk
