Lawlor praises hard work

24 December 2017

Ian Lawlor felt his team-mates’ hard work was rewarded with three points in the 1-0 win at Bristol Rovers.

Niall Mason’s first-half penalty saw the visitor’s take all three points, although it took a stunning save from the Irishman to keep Bristol at bay, and Lawlor was pleased with how Rovers saw the game out.

“It goes through your mind about the late goals, you’re thinking here we go again, but I think we were really positive, we defended well, and the lads stuck it out, we’ve focused on it a lot this week and that showed,” he said.

“Our league position doesn’t do us justice, but we’ve been putting in some good performances, we concentrate on ourselve, take it game by game and we’ve started the festive period off with three points. It's positive for everyone, three points and a clean sheet that everyone worked hard to get - ow we hope this can be the start of a run.”

The festive period is Lawlor’s first with Rovers, as well as coinciding with the end of his first year at the club, and he is delighted with the progress he has made under Darren Ferguson.

“I’m enjoying my football and I’m really happy here, I have to thank the gaffer for the opportunity, but I’m playing and the team is doing well and that’s the most important thing that the team are winning games,” he added.

“I’ve had to mature a lot and I’ve really enjoyed it, I’ve matured as a goalkeeper and a person, and I’ve learnt a lot since making the step up from academy football.

“It’s my first Christmas period here so I’m looking forward to it, we need rest in between each game but we’re straight in on Sunday to work ahead of the next game then I’ll get the chance to chill out with my family.”

Tickets for Rovers’ Boxing Day clash with Northampton Town are still available via the Club Doncaster Box Office, and they can purchased at tickets.clubdoncaster.co.uk.
